We meet you on the first day of the trip in Cruz Bay, St. John, U.S.V.I. To get to St. John, one must first fly to St. Thomas. The major airlines servicing St. Thomas are American, Delta, USAir, and Continental. (We recommend the online ticketing services such as Travelocity, Orbitz, etc. for the cheapest fares.)
Once on St. Thomas, take the ferry from the eastern end (known as Red Hook) to Cruz Bay, St. John. This ferry leaves for St. John every hour on the hour from 6 in the morning until midnight. The ferry ride is twenty minutes and costs $5.00/person plus $2.00/bag. If you choose to take the ferry from downtown Charlotte Amalie, which is closer to the airport, the rate is $11.50/person plus $2.00/bag and the ride is 45 minutes. This ferry leaves less frequently at 9 and 11 AM; 1:00, 3:00, 4:00 & 5:30 PM.
We meet at 8:00 AM on the morning of the first day of the trip at
Big Planet Adventure Outfitters, a retail store in Mongoose Junction.
Mongoose Junction is a shopping area located on the edge of town on
the North Shore Road. It is within walking distance from the ferry
dock. We will issue dry bags for your gear and grab a quick breakfast
from a bakery nearby. From there, we will board our motor launch for
the upwind leg of the trip, clear customs and begin our trip in the
British Virgin Islands.
Any baggage you wish to leave behind while you are paddling can be
stored with us for the duration of the expedition.
You will need lodging on St. John the night before the trip and the night after the trip. The following are the names, phone numbers, and links to places to stay:
